The most popular wedding day? Almost everyone picks the same one

When do couples actually get married? Because every Pixavo album is tied to a wedding date, we can see the answer in our own data, aggregated and fully anonymised. And the answer is remarkably unanimous.

Almost 9 in 10 weddings happen on a Friday or Saturday

Saturday is the undisputed king of wedding days, with Friday a strong second. Together they account for 87% of the weddings in our albums (collected across the Netherlands and Belgium, where we started). Midweek weddings are the exception: a Thursday appears now and then, and a Monday or Tuesday wedding is a rare bird.

It makes sense: on a Saturday nobody needs a day off, family can travel from far away, and the party can run late without half the room slipping out at eleven muttering "work tomorrow".

Friday is on the rise, and it is a smart move

A Friday wedding comes with quiet advantages: many venues and vendors charge less than on Saturday, the best locations stay available longer, and your guests get the whole weekend to recover. In our data, the busiest single day of this past summer was a Saturday in late September, but a Friday tied for second place with the Saturday right after it. Couples are catching on.

What guests deliver on the day: 200+ photos and videos

Once the day arrives, your guests become your biggest photo team. Across our albums, a wedding collects more than 200 guest photos and videos on average, with a guest record of 1,160 uploads at a single wedding. About 93% are photos and 7% are videos, and the videos are almost always the keepers: the speeches, the vows, the first dance.

Sharing peaks between 21:00 and 23:00, right when the party is in full swing, and in the typical album, 95% of all uploads are in within 48 hours of the wedding. One thank-you message with the album link the morning after catches the second wave, which is just as big as the first: the day after the wedding brings in as many photos as the wedding day itself.

One more reassuring insight: most couples sort out the final details in the last weeks before the wedding. The photo album is a good example: most couples only set it up shortly before the big day.
