The most popular wedding day? Almost everyone picks the same moment

When do couples actually get married? Because every Pixavo album is tied to a wedding date, we can see the answer in our own data, added up across hundreds of guests and dozens of weddings. And that answer is surprisingly unanimous.

A note on the data first: these numbers come from real albums in the Netherlands and Belgium (season 2026), fully anonymised. Wedding customs differ by country, but if you are planning in the UK, the US, Canada or Australia you will recognise the pattern immediately: a Saturday is the default, a Friday the smart alternative, and late summer the moment everyone wants.

More than 8 in 10 weddings fall on a Friday or Saturday

Saturday is, and remains, the king of wedding days, with Friday a strong second. Together those two days account for more than 80% of all the weddings in our albums. The rest of the week is for the brave: Thursdays and Wednesdays show up occasionally, and a Monday or Tuesday wedding is a rare bird.

Which makes sense: on a Saturday nobody has to book time off, family can travel from far away, and the party can run late without half the room slipping out at eleven muttering "work tomorrow".

The busiest wedding day of the summer? The last weekend of August

In our albums two days competed for the title of busiest wedding day in August: Friday 28 August and Saturday 22 August, with Saturday 29 August close behind. That makes the last weekend of August the wedding weekend of the summer, and the first weeks of September are full too. Late summer wins: the worst of the heat has passed, the odds of a golden evening light are high, and the summer holidays have just ended so everybody is back.

Friday is on the rise, and that is smart

That a Friday fought for first place is no coincidence. A Friday wedding has quiet advantages: many venues and suppliers charge less than on a Saturday, the best venues stay available longer, and your guests have the whole weekend to recover. Couples who dare to marry midweek get that same advantage in a bigger dose, in exchange for a day of leave from their guests.

When do couples sort out the details? Later than you think

Another reassuring number from our data: most couples look into the final details one to three months before the wedding, and settle them on average about one and a half to two weeks in advance. The photo album for guest photos is a good example: the median couple sets up their QR album 11 days before the wedding. So if you feel "late" with the small things: you are in good company, and you are not too late.

One thing worth doing earlier: the invitations, because your guests have that Saturday in other diaries too. Especially if you are marrying on the popular last weekend of August, your date is probably not the only wedding in their season. The complete, quarterly-updated set lives on Wedding photos by the numbers; these are the headline figures, for anyone planning a wedding, writing about one or researching them. Basis: 65 completed weddings in the Netherlands and Belgium (July to early September 2026), together almost 13,500 shared photos and videos.

How many photos do your guests deliver?

• More than 200 photos and videos per wedding on average (median 162, mean 207)
• New record: 1,156 uploads at a single wedding
• 93% photos, 7% video; the videos are almost always the speeches and the first dance

Who are the photographers?

• On the median wedding 15 guests become your photography team for the day
• Each of them shares around 10 photos or videos; together they deliver the complete story, from the getting-ready shots to the last dance

When do they share?

• A first small wave around the ceremony (noon and 1 pm), then it builds towards the evening
• The peak is between 9 and 11 pm; well over three quarters of the wedding-day uploads land between 5 and 11 pm
• In the median album, 97% of all uploads are in within 48 hours; more than 8 in 10 albums are fully complete within a week

When is the album set up?

• The median couple sets up the album 11 days before the wedding (mean 12 days); most start looking 1 to 3 months ahead
• Being late with the small things is normal, and no problem: an album is ready in five minutes

All numbers are added up across albums and fully anonymised: we never look inside individual albums and never analyse the images themselves, only counts and timestamps. Treat them as a snapshot of season 2026; the dataset grows with every wedding season.
